Elevation of the Holy Cross, September 13, 2015

In this episode of Good News for a Change, on the Sunday before the Elevation of the Holy Cross, Fr. Constantine Lazarakis shares thoughts on this important Feast Day. When we elevate the cross in September and then when we venerate it during Great Lent, our relationship with the Cross is the same. It is above us. We are subservient to it. When we consider the sacrifice of Jesus on that Holy Cross, we should reflect on what place sacrifice should have in our lives as Orthodox Christians. There is a spiritual benefit to be gained when we realize, in sacrifice, that things don’t really belong to us. They are God’s. God asks us to surrender control in order that we may grasp something infinitely greater.
