Family Honors St. Katherine with a Chapel

There is a long tradition of building chapels or shrines on personal property. The European landscapes are peppered with chapel domes and crosses. In some instances, they are beacons of gratitude for a prayer answered. Other times they are built to honor a beloved saint. In this stunning video, Bishop Ilia Katre of the Albanian Orthodox Diocese of America and Fr. Emmanuel Lemelson bless a property where such a chapel is being built.

The chapel being built will be dedicated to St. Katherine of Alexandria. St. Katherine according to the calendar on the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese website states:

(She) was the daughter of Constas (or Cestus). She was an exceedingly beautiful maiden, most chaste, and illustrious in wealth, lineage, and learning. By her steadfast understanding, she utterly vanquished the passionate and unbridled soul of Maximinus, the tyrant of Alexandria; and by her eloquence, she stopped the mouths of the so-called philosophers who had been gathered to dispute with her. She was crowned with the crown of martyrdom in the year 305.

May St. Katherine intercede for us all and bless the family’s dedication to living their Orthodox faith fully.
