Georgetown University’s Orthodox Christian Fellowship Chapter Hosts an Interfaith Ministry for Refugees
On Wednesday, April 19th, Georgetown University’s Orthodox Christian Fellowship (OCF) chapter hosted an Interfaith Ministry for Refugees, where students learned more about the humanitarian relief work of International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC) and other charities in Greece. The event provided students with a chance to get involved and support the work of IOCC as they assembled 200 health and hygiene kits that IOCC will distribute to people in need in the 50+ countries where the charity operates.
Participating along with Orthodox students were members of the university’s Catholic and Hindu student groups. Following a dinner and presentation about the refugee crisis in Greece, students gathered together and assembled the 200 health and hygiene kits in under 20 minutes. Michael Boosalis, the Development Director for Critical Relief for Children (CRC), a network of humanitarian charities in Greece, offered remarks at the event and provided an overview of the refugee crisis in Greece, as well as the relief work currently being done there.
Overall, event participants enjoyed an evening of service and fellowship as they made a contribution to an Orthodox organization that aids so many people through global philanthropic work. Everyone who attended gained an appreciation for the relief efforts of IOCC and realized a practical and collaborative way to provide support for the refugee crisis.
