World renowned Byzantine iconographer John Filippakis has been tasked with the iconography of Saint Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, home of the Orthodox Christian Network.

The Iconographer, John (Ioannis) Filippakis was born on March 26, 1951 in Iraklion, a city on the island of Crete, Greece. It was from a very young age John expressed an immense interest in Byzantine art. While studying in America, John was influenced by various iconographers such as Theophanis the Cretan, Damaskinos and Panselinos. With his unrelenting passion for iconography and its specialized techniques, John became a lifetime student and later master of Byzantine Iconography for the next thirty years and to this present day. His legacy and art work can be admired throughout the United States and the world in over seventy churches as mosaics, iconography, murals, frescoes, and portable icons.
