Interview with Patriarch John X of Antioch
The Orthodox Christian Network is excited to share an interview with His Beatitude Patriarch John X of Antioch the day before the enthronement of Metropolitan Joseph as the new head of the Antiochian Orthodox Church in North America.
Watch Fr. Christopher’s interview with the His Beatitude as they cover several issues: the significance of the enthronement, the future of the Antiochian Archdiocese, the persecution of Christians in Syria, and inter-Orthodox relations. The Patriarch observes:
Truly, we are passing through very difficult days. But I can tell you that our Christian people — they believe, they are of great faith. And, you know, Syria, Lebanon, our homeland, we have there Christianity from the beginning, before Islam, and with Islam, and after Islam we are there. And we hope and we try, we work and we pray to be there, and we push our people to remain. And they want to remain; they want to remain despite all these tragedies and difficulties.
The film begins with footage of the enthronement itself, as the Patriarch is about to pass a bishop’s staff to Metropolitan Joseph. As he does so, the Patriarch proclaims that he who holds the staff will give an account of his leadership to “our Chief Shepherd, our Lord Jesus Christ.” After he passes the staff, the two embrace and the crowd bursts into shouts and chants of “Axios!”, providing their affirmation and declaring Metropolitan Joseph worthy of the office entrusted to him.
