OCMC’s full-time missionary assignment in Guatemala, Jesse Brandow (biography), has reported on his change in position in Guatemala as well as the recent news for the thriving Orthodoxy within the country.
The first major headline reported from Jesse was a Chrismation of fifty-six Guatemalans, view the (photos). The second major headline was a large catechetical gathering in the village of Huehuetenango. With the help of OCMC, Guatemalans organize these catechetical meetings to discuss and distribute upcoming resources for the catechists and teachers (photos). The last reported headline was the inauguration of the new medical clinic in Aguacate (web page).
In Jesse’s personal OCMC news, he recently moved to Aguacate, a very small village in the highlands of Guatemala. In Aguacate, since since September, he has put together new Spanish booklets for Matins and Vespers and is beginning a whole new operation. Jesse reports the following, “I will be a mentor for the pre-seminarians who live in Aguacate, teaching them and guiding them in our daily chapel services. I also will be a leader for the parish community as a whole, preaching when Fr. Evangelos is away. I will be an assistant in the medical clinic, interpreting in Spanish for the mission teams and teaching English to Juana, the administrator for the clinic. I am, focusing on the dreams of this small village. The leaders of Aguacate have vision. If we can equip them, then there’s no telling how far their momentum will travel to other areas of Guatemala.”
