On the morning of October 14th, the United States lost another eminent and esteemed philanthropist, Chris Tomaras. According to a press release from the World Council of Hellenes Abroad (written by Dr. Olga Sarantopoulos), Mr. Tomaras had a “restless spirit” and a “selflessness, which led him during his life to initiatives that strengthened the vision of an united Hellenism and supported the new generation of Greek-Americans.” He was considered “the most ardent defender of our national causes and the ideals of our culture, our history and our Greek language.” He also founded the PanHellenic Scholastic Scholarship Foundation, which is the largest foundation giving financial aid to Greek Americans in the whole country. His passion for supporting Hellenistic civil, educational, and religious organizations will be missed.
