It’s a hauntingly beautiful rendition of a famous hymn from Holy Week, chanted by the renown Byzantine chanter Nikodemos Kabarnos, now ordained to the priesthood.
Edited so as to appear it takes place in the Great Church of Hagia Sophia itself, the words, which are taken from Scripture, are profoundly moving and prophetic: “They took off My clothes, and they gave Me a crimson cloak. Upon My head they put a Crown of Thorns. And to My right hand they gave a wooden staff, to crush them like pottery.”
