The Antiochian Synod discussed in an advisory session held at Balamand, the works of the Great Orthodox Synod which is about to be held this year.

His Beatitude, John X, the Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and all the East, presided the meeting with the archbishops of Syria, Lebanon, and the Diaspora. They discussed the merits and preparations of the Great Synod, and the Antiochian view over the different issues and principles, besides the mechanisms of participation and decision making.

In the end, his Beatitude delivered a speech in which he emphasized the importance of peace settlement in the region, especially in Syria. He also reminded everybody of the file pertaining to the kidnapped archbishops of Aleppo Paul Yazigi and John Ibrahim, and came across the presidential vacuum in Lebanon appealing to those concerned, to fill it.

He also congratulated everybody on Christmas and the New Year alluding to the importance of the Orthodox Christian unity for approaching modern challenges, and emphasizing the importance of The Great Synod in unified orthodox testimonies nowadays.
