Disciples Fishing in a Digital Ocean

Disciples Fishing in a Digital Ocean

Almost two thousand years ago, Jesus called the fishermen to become fishers of men.  Back then, all you needed to fish was know-how, a boat and a net.

Life had a slower pace.  People spoke face to face.  You could believe what you saw with your own eyes.

But how do we fish for men in today’s modern world?  The internet is a big ocemediacenteran and Orthodoxy must start using digital media to bring them in.

Understanding that there is insufficient training programs offered for Orthodox Media Ministry, Orthodox Christian Network found a perfect opportunity to collaborate with Hellenic College Holy Cross.

A generous donation was made to fund the OCN Media Ministry Lab at Hellenic College Holy Cross by the OCN board, and students got excited about this new opportunity to learn  and interact with Orthodox Christians in addition to their studies.  The time was right to establish an Orthodox Media Ministry Program.   We call it the Digital Disciples Scholarship Program.

mediacenter2A student can apply to be a digital disciple scholar for a one year term.  Students experience the challenges and effectiveness of using various forms of media by interviewing speakers and guests visiting the campus, filming events, writing articles, website management, contributing to social media, and involvement in pan-Orthodox activities worldwide.

Objectives include but are not limited to all publications, web, video, audio, and graphic arts used on behalf of Orthodox Christian Network.

Becoming a Digital Disciple at Orthodox Christian Network is an opportunity where students receive personal development, as well as witnessing and impacting lives being transformed through the power of faith and the Gospel.

Today’s technology can make everything seem possible and has the power to reach across the globe from the comfort of our backyards.  We don’t necessarily need a bigger boat.  Digital Disciples Program trains the next generation to use the tools before them.

Thanks to OCN’s Vision a Work Study Scholarship Program at Hellenic College Holy Cross  You can get involved in this Fund too.  Help Fund a digital disciple today!
