On Saturday November 28th, 2015, His Beatitude Patriarch Youhanna of Antioch will enthrone His Eminence Metropolitan Silouan (Oner) as Archbishop of London and Metropolitan of the British Isles and Ireland at St. George Cathedral in London. Many bishops from the Holy Synod of Antioch will attend this occasion. Patriarch Youhanna will also serve the Divine Liturgy with his brother bishops the following day.
Metropolitan Silouan was ordained to the Episcopate on August 30th at the Balamand after serving for several years as an Archimandrite and the Abbot of St. George Monastery in Humaira.
In his Address after his ordination, Metropolitan Silouan expressed deep gratitude to the members of the Holy Synod for their confidence in appointing him to the office of bishop. He expressed that he did not feel worthy for such a role, but that it was the will of God that He should work through him for the building up of the church. He addresses his new spiritual children in Britain and calls them to work for the acquisition of the Holy Spirit, which is the only lasting work of the Christian.
I ask this day, of the Lord, head of the heavenly Church, to help me, I who will serve Him working for the people, to help the people and alleviate their suffering; sure in Him, that the only solution to end the pain in this world is the acquisition of the Holy Spirit.
May God grant him many years and strength in his new episcopal ministry!
