Inspired by the IOCC, the Orthodox Christian Network will be featuring the outstanding charitable, benevolent and philanthropic outreach of this organization who, in the spirit of Christ’s love, offers emergency relief and development programs to those in need worldwide, without discrimination, and strengthens the capacity of the Orthodox Church to so respond. Please join us in raising awareness for their countless acts of kindness, and we invite you to learn more about the IOCC.
It is four weeks after Hurricane Joaquin and many people in the Bahamas are still without power. On Long Island of the Bahamas, more than three thousand residents were devastated by 130 mph winds and nearly 24 inches of rain during the hurricane. Hundreds of families are without shelter after the powerful winds tore off roofs and left them looking out at the dark whirling skies. The ocean rose with such force and waves that a freighter and other boats were thrown ashore.
IOCC is on the ground helping to regroup and assess the needs of the survivors. “Working in cooperation with Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, in Nassau, Bahamas, a parish of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, and with local relief partner, HeadKnowles, IOCC is providing building supplies for residents of Long Island who have started to repair their homes. Blankets, hygiene kits, school kits, and cleanup buckets are also in transit to the Bahamas and being delivered to families in need on the affected outer islands.” – IOCC
Right now, the effort to rebuild and repair homes is well underway and in the mean time IOCC and other relief partners are working hard to provide for the communities needs.
