Alex Goodwin serves as the Communications Director at the Orthodox Christian Mission Center (OCMC) in St. Augustine, Florida, where he lives with his wife and two children. Alex has participated on multiple mission teams to Africa. His duties at the Mission Center include broadening awareness of, and participation in, Orthodox missions among the faithful of North America.
The Orthodox Christian Mission Center is pleased to announce Dr. William Black as the latest candidate for long-term missionary service from the United States. With the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios, Dr. Black will be serving in Kenya where he will work as a lecturer at the Makarios III seminary in Nairobi and also help facilitate continuing education for more than 250 priests throughout the Archdiocese.
Dr. Black was an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church USA from 1989-2001, and previously served as a missionary in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. He taught Theology and History at the Ethiopian Graduate School of Theology from 2001 to 2008. Since that time, Bill’s home became Kenya, where he continued serving as a missionary while lecturing at Africa International University.
During the 14 years since his introduction to Orthodox Christianity, coupled with extensive study of the faith and attending services, Bill had a growing desire to become a full Communicant before being received through the Church of Kenya by Archbishop Makarios in 2011. Later that same year, he was appointed to the faculty of St. Paul’s University as an adjunct professor and inaugurated a new Ph.D. program for them. He was tonsured a Reader by His Eminence in 2012, and has served as a guest lecturer there since that time.
Dr. Black is currently in the United States as he continues to meet those who will join him in prayer and financial support of this ministry to help educate current and future clergy in Kenya to minister to the needs of the Orthodox faithful there.
Please pray for Dr. Black and support his return to Kenya in 2015. Contact him by phone at (434) 227-6897, or by e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like to invite his to come speak at your parish or if you have any questions regarding the ministry in Kenya.
