Orthodox Institute at Cambridge Asks, “Christian Ecumenism: Does It Have a Future?”

In a few days the Institute for Orthodox Christian Studies in Cambridge will be hosting a significant lecture by Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk.

His Eminence will speak on the topic “Christian Ecumenism: Does It Have A Future?” Metropolitan Hilarion is the official representative of the Moscow Patriarchate in all of the most important international, multilateral, and bilateral dialogues sponsored by the Patriarchate — and he has voiced criticism several times in the past.

Here’s the official announcement:

We are delighted to announce a forthcoming major event hosted by our Institute, together with the Divinity Faculty of The University of Cambridge and the Cambridge Theological Federation, on Friday, 6 February 2015, at 5.30 p.m., in St Giles Church, Cambridge. Our very distinguished guest, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk will give a public lecture on: ‘Christian Ecumenism: Does It Have A Future?’

Metropolitan Hilarion (Alfeyev) is Chairman of the Department for External Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, a permanent member of the Commission for Theological Dialogue between the Orthodox and Roman Catholic Churches, and a Member of the Central and Executive Committees of the World Council of Churches.

The lecture will be preceded by a Pan-Orthodox Vespers service also in St Giles church starting at 4 p.m.

Do join us on this very special occasion – all are welcome!
