Orthodox of New Zealand Celebrate Epiphany

AUCKLAND, NZ- On Sunday, January 10th, 2016, the Orthodox Christians of Auckland, gathered at the serene and scenic Coyle Park in Point Chevalier, Auckland to mark the annual commemoration of Epiphany, the Baptism of our Lord in the River Jordan.

The tide being low that day we encouraged the parents to prepare the children 10 years old and younger to also “dive” for the cross.

We congratulate Maria Bell and Vladislav Chepurnov for capturing the cross respectively. Epiphany_Fr. Patitsas

This is the fourth consecutive year that we have done a combined Orthodox celebration in honor of Epiphany.

A community picnic followed at the Hellenic Community and Orthodox Parish of Auckland hall in Western Springs.

The two priests who served at the blessing were Father Michael Ruskin of Christ the Saviour Antiochian Orthodox Church, Whangarei and Father Paul Patitsas of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, Auckland.

The blessed water of Waitematā Harbour is filled by the Pacific Ocean through the Hauraki Gulf.
