Orthodox Christian Network brings you news of events and people important to the life of the Orthodox Church around the world. OCN highlights media organizations that track these important stories.
BBC News produced an awesome collection of photos of the Orthodox around the world celebrating Christmas. Faithful from Europe, Africa, and the Middle East all celebrated Christ’s birth according to their own local customs, all of which included the Church and religious aspects of the feast. Click here to see the fantastic photos.
Unfortunately, they made the mistake most people make when they say that Christmas is celebrated on January 7th. Christians celebrate Christmas on December 25th. It’s just that some of the churches did not cross over to the Gregorian calendar and still follow the Julian calendar, which lags 13 days. By the time they get to December 25th on their calendar, the secular/new calendar world is 13 day ahead, January 7th.
To those who are celebrating Christmas today, and to those who are celebrating Epiphany, we wish you all a blessed year of good health and enlightenment.
