Christ the Teacher

How many teachers do you have? Do you have a teacher for math, another one for reading, another one for science or gym? Do you have a Sunday School teacher or a piano teacher? We look to our teachers to help us learn, so we can grow smarter in lots of different subjects.
In today’s Gospel reading, we hear about a man who came to Jesus. He wanted Jesus to heal his son, who was sick. The Gospel says, “A man came to Jesus kneeling and saying, ‘Teacher, I brought my son to you…’” This man called Jesus “Teacher.”

AN AMERICAN SAINT: SAINT INNOCENT OF ALASKA

Did you know we have saints from our own country? St. Innocent of Alaska was one of the first missionaries to America. He came from Russia, and he wanted to tell everybody in Alaska about Jesus Christ. One of the most amazing things about St. Innocent was how hard he worked to tell people about Christ. When he became a bishop, he traveled 14,850 miles by ship, kayak, dogsled, and foot, just so he could preach to people. That’s like going from Washington, DC to Los Angeles, California five and a half times!

We celebrate St. Innocent on Tuesday, March 31st (April 13, OC).

Welcome to “The Children’s Word,” a weekly ministry of the Orthodox Christian Network. Each week, Presvytera Alexandra Houck writes this little newsletter for young parishioners! You will find age-appropriate articles, stories, and activities in every edition. The newsletter is provided in PDF format so that you can easily download and print it, and share it with your parish, church school, homeschool, family, and friends.

Each issue includes a message on the Sunday Gospel lesson and on one of the saints for the week. You’ll also find a coloring page and other activities. It is designed for a 8.5 x 14 page, so it can be printed and folded.
