Have you ever been scared of somebody important? Maybe you were a little scared to talk to your teacher on the first day of school. Or maybe you met somebody famous and couldn’t think of a word to say to him or her. Sometimes talking to an important person might make us feel shy or scared!
In today’s epistle reading, Saint John tells us that when we love God, we don’t have to be afraid of Him. God, of course, is the most important person of all! But our Lord doesn’t want us to be afraid of Him. The epistle tells us, “God is love, and he who lives in love, lives in God, and God lives in him… There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear.”
Sometimes people are afraid of God because they know how important He is. They know how powerful He is. They know that He judges us and decides if we can be in heaven with Him one day.

THE MAGICIAN WHO BECAME A CHRISTIAN: SAINTS CYPRIAN AND JUSTINA
Do you know what a magician is? You might have heard of somebody showing off some card tricks, or pulling a rabbit out of a hat. That kind of magician is just good at tricking you. But did you know that there are real magicians? Those kinds of magicians try to get power from evil things, not from God.
Long ago, there was once a magician named Cyprian, who didn’t know about our
Lord, Jesus Christ. He asked for help from other things, and he didn’t know how to ask for help from our one, true God. He found out about the power of our God from a young woman named Justina. Cyprian saw how she prayed to God and made the sign of the Cross. Cyprian saw how God listened to her and answered her prayers.
