Have you ever done something nice for somebody…but you didn’t want to do it? Maybe you shared a treat with a brother or sister, or played with somebody you didn’t want to play with, or helped somebody you didn’t want to help. But then, did you complain about it? When we complain about something, we take away the good thing we did!

In today’s epistle reading, we hear some advice about being a good Christian. We hear how when we do something good, we should do it cheerfully! The epistle says, “Let us use our gifts…Whoever does something merciful, with cheerfulness.” In another epistle, we hear the same kind of thing. When we give to people who need our help, we don’t want to give with complaining or because somebody forced us to do it  “because God loves a cheerful giver.” But sometimes it’s hard to give, or to share, or to help somebody!

We celebrate this special day on Thursday, Aug. 1 (Aug. 14th, OC).
