Three reasons why I should believe in God.
1. Witness of Scripture: The Orthodox Christian tradition sees the Bible as the inspired Word of God, containing God’s revelation to humanity. These sacred texts attest to the existence of God from the beginning of time and reveal God’s nature and character. Through the Bible, we know that God is a loving and just creator who desires a personal relationship with His people. Furthermore, the Bible gives us numerous accounts of God’s intervention in human history, demonstrating His presence and power in the world.
2. Personal Experience: For many believers, the experience of encountering Jesus Christ has been a transformative and life-changing event. Through prayer, worship, and reading of Scripture, Orthodox Christians believe that the Holy Spirit enters their lives and gives them a personal experience of the presence of God. This experience is not just an emotional feeling or a fleeting moment but is a profound sense of peace, joy, love, and hope that continuously sustains believers throughout their lives.
3. Evidence of Creation: The complexity and beauty of the natural world have led many Orthodox Christians to believe that there must be a divine creator. Believers see evidence of God’s handiwork in the intricacies of human biology, the vastness of the universe, and the delicate ecological balance that sustains life on our planet. Orthodox Christians believe that God’s creation is not just a random collection of matter but a purposeful and intentional act of love that reveals God’s wisdom, power, and goodness.
These reasons, as well as other elements of personal faith which are brought about by individual circumstances and perspectives, provide a foundation for a deep and meaningful relationship with God that sustains believers throughout their lives and gives them hope for the future.
