“The world is spinning out of control. And so the only thing that we can truly know these days is ourselves. And of course, we can only know ourselves as we exist in relationship with God.”
Many people today are overwhelmed, distracted, isolated, and anxious. The question for Orthodox Christians is how to reach people who are too caught up in daily life to seek out the peace and community Christ and his Church can offer them.
In this episode, Christo Pappademos, a seminary graduate and lifelong Church servant who also works as a fitness professional, talks about what the contemporary world is missing and what Orthodoxy provides. We discuss anxiety as a widespread problem even among successful people who seem to have everything in order, how isolation from God and community contributes to poor mental health, and why a Church that has remained unchanged for 2,000 years may be exactly what people are craving in a world where so much of what surrounds us is artificial or manufactured.
We also talk practically about how to reach people where they are, working spiritual content in alongside the things people already know they want, whether that is a dance festival, a fitness program, or a social media feed.
